ALLEYWAY PARKING

From 22 September 2008 City of London Corporation will start ticketing vehicles parked in alleyways...

In London alleyway (footpath) parking (A footpath runs away at an angle from the road / a footway runs parallel with the road) is now an offence (Under the London Local Authorities and Transport for London Act 2008). This follows amendments made to the Greater London Council (General Powers) Act 1974 where the original wording meant there was a loophole which because of the absence of any reference to alleyways (footpaths) allowed vehicles to park in alleyways. (Updated 9 Sep 08)

Section 8 of the London Local Authorities and Transport for London Act 2008 reads as follows:

(3) In subsection (4)—

   (a) “—(a)” is inserted after “the parking of vehicles”;
