I am new to motorcycling but see no reason why motorcyclists should not be allowed to use bus lanes. Motorbikes would not cause congestion nor would they get in the way of buses (unlike bicycles who are allowed to use them).
The use of bus lanes by motorbikes would increase safety on the road as it would allow bikes to filter through in a separate lane rather than being forced, as at present, to pass on the outside of trafic with the risks posed to and by oncoming vehicles. |

I agree totally. It seems odd that bicycles are allowed into bus lanes when they do cause the buses to slow down, yet motorcyclist can just whizz through without causing any disruption at all. i have had to use the bus lane to escape from brainless car drivers who unfortunately want to ram us off the road for whatever reason. Only trouble is, each time I've done this I have been fined. Small price to pay to stop me from being killed I suppose. |

We need a campaign to allow motorcyclists to,
smash the front side windows of cars with ridiculous black tints,
insertion of mobile phones in a sideways configuration into the rectum of offending car drivers
as above but for twat navs
The development and deployment of bike to car missiles
should render the phrase 'sorry mate I didn't see you' a thing of the past, even though the phrase really means, sorry mate couldn't be arsed to look as I'm in my indestructible metal box. |

This is the reply from No 10 about the use of bus lanes. This also means more money for local councils to charge £50-60 per fine.
The Government recognises that motorcycling has become increasingly popular and offers a number of benefits.
Bus lanes are the responsibility of the relevant highway authority. In February 2007, The Department for Transport issued new guidance in the form of a Traffic Advisory Leaflet 2/07 on "The Use of Bus Lanes by Motorcycles". This makes clear to local highway authorities that it is open to them to decide whether or not to allow motorcycles to use bus lanes and encourage them to make an objective assessment of the issue.
The new guidance revises the previous Department for Transport's advice on bus lanes, Local Transport Note 1/97: Keeping Buses Moving, which recommended that motorcycles should not normally be permitted to use bus lanes. |
