Hello. My company is the ElectricTransportShop .com and we have just opened a showroom in Camden Town (to complement our existing shop in Cambridge). I'm interested to know if anyone rides an electric scooter or moped and if they do, are there any places to park which have charging points?
I will be doing some investigating myself, and once I gather as many locations as possible I will post them all here. Perhaps at this point the forum admin might consider making the post a 'sticky'?
Regards

| I know that electric scooters are quite popular in France with Paris for instance having more and more charging points, but I have never seen an electric scooter over here. I don't think there is yet a market for electric scooters in the UK. |

| I don't think I've ever heard of a charging point let alone seen one. |

Sinister,
Westminster have some charging points located across the street from New Scotland Yard / round the back of the Westminster Council HQ. Whether you would be able to use these for a bike depends upon the socket you have for recharging.
As a note, do you know that electric bikes are exepmt the parking charge in Westminster. |

| I'm of the opinion all powered two wheelers should be exempt from charges. Is risking life and limb on a daily basis at the wheels of myopic morons in cars, too easily distracted by their stereos, twat navs, and even televisions while they are driving to notice anything going on outside their little tin boxes. That is if they can see out of their over tinted drivers window! |

I drive a Vectrix. It's brilliant, except that the range is less than advertised, and it's heavy. I work in Westminster and Camden. In Westminster I pay NOTHING to park in bike bays, or in car parking places. Westminster is fantastic about electric bikes, and since I have a workplace in the borough I was able to register for their charging points. I can charge my bike for FREE at any of the points anywhere in London. The subscription costs £75 but you also get a heavy duty lead.
In Camden only residents can use the points, but they might change those rules soon since I appear to be the only person to use the charging point on Store Street. I do this by parking the bike in the meter parking next to the charging point and running the lead over to the post.
Anyway, to all bikers....once you go electric you never go back. No Tax. No maintenance. No petrol station hassle. No parking fees. |

It may not be as far behind as one might think:
25 FEBRUARY 2010 - London secures £17 million funding for UK’s largest electric vehicle charge point network
Expect appr 1,600 new charging points within now and next year They try to reach 7,500 charging points in 3 years time.. very bold but interesting.

|
|
Hello,
I am looking forward to buy a scooter in the next few months and I have to say that I find the idea of driving an electric one very appealing.
It would make me very happy indeed to kiss good bye to 'Petrol'!
I live in Camden, so if I follow you guys, it is quite well deserved in terms of charging points and free for residents. I think you said that there were charging points in Soho and St Paul, this would awsome!! (My uni is there )
Anyway, I was wondering if any of you could indicate me some brands of electric scooter I could look into, as I am a novice in the area. I have seen some on electrip. co. uk... Any of you heard about that?
Thanks for your help,
MLise x
PS: What about theft? Do you know if electric scooters get stolen a lot?... |
