MOTORCYCLE SECURITY

To find secure motorcycle parking locations (with anchors to secure your bike to or with CCTV) go to our secure parking locations page.

Secure Motorcycle Parking

Alternatively, read our advice on how to avoid having your motorcycle or scooter stolen:

Deter bike thieves by following some simple advice:

As soon as you buy your bike

1) Have a high quality immobiliser and alarm fitted professionally

and

2a) Datatag link your bike and display warning stickers to denote as such (With each serial number recorded, thieves will find it difficult to sell either the bike or its parts as each item will be traceable)

or

2b) Mark your bike with an ultra-violet marker (Write the Vehicle Identification Number, Vehicle Registration Number or your postcode on each panel, the effect will be as above but less permanent as most UV marks will disappear after a few weeks)

or do all three!

Whenever parking your bike

3) Try to park your bike in a secure location such as a locked garage or shed, but don't forget to follow the following further rules which need to be employed in tandem for maximum security

4) Try to park in a busy, well lit area

5) Always engage your steering lock

6) Use a good quality lock and chain or U-lock (Ideally Thatcham approved which will be quality assured and may make you eligible for discounted insurance)

7) Secure the bike to something immovable such as a ground anchor or 'street furniture' (It only tales a second to lift a bike into the back of a van)

8) Try to use the lock in such a manner that it will not touch the ground (This will make it more difficult to break)

9) Don't leave anything under the seat (Some riders deliberately leave their seats open so that thieves do not break the seat lock when searching for items to steal)

10) Cover your bike if possible
