Liverpool Motorcycle Parking - There are a number of locations on-street within the city in which parking is dedicated for motorcycle parking only and which are free of charge. These are located in the following streets:
Brunswick Street , Castle Hill , Exchange Passage West , Heathfield Street and Old Church Yard (some locations may be temporarily out of use due to development works)
In addition, motorcycles may be parked free of charge in the City Council owned off-street car parks, two of which (Victoria St and Level 3 of Mount Pleasant Car Park) have recently had upgraded motorcycle parking facilities installed, which includes motorcycle anchor rails (www.motoloc.com) to provide additional security for motorcycles to be chained to.
Please note: Historically motorcycles have never been legally permitted to use on-street Pay & Display facilities within the controlled parking zone in Liverpool City Centre. However because there was no notice to that effect on the ticket machines, the City Council took the pragmatic approach that motorcycles parked in the bays would not receive a penalty charge notice, even though many were also parked without displaying a valid parking ticket. This has now changed . As from 4 September 2006, notices on Pay & Display ticket machines (on-street) state that motorcycles are not permitted to be parked in on-street Pay & Display parking bays. Any motorcycles parked in the Pay & Display bays (on-street) after that date will receive a penalty charge notice.
In advance of the above change the council placed leaflets on motorcycles parked in on-street P&D bays, such that their owners were made aware of the proposals. Additionally details were also sent to the Motorcycle Action Group and British Motorcycle Federation and a press release was issued. (Updated 27 Jun 08)
